Harmony

1 Cor 1:11

Let there be real harmony so that there won't be splits in the church. I plead with you

to be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”  TLB

Harmony is a beautiful thing.  When music comes together – when different notes play at the same time –

yet they compliment each other because they are the right notes.  This is harmony.

Because we are all different notes, we need to play together at the right time.

This is done when we have forgiveness, kindness, generosity toward each other; when we compromise what we

want for the good of the whole.

Acts 2: 43-3:1  “A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.

44 And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their possessions and shared

the proceeds with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper,

and shared their meals with great joy and generosity —  47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people

(result:) And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved.” NLT

Harmony is achieved when the right notes are played together.

Some of the right notes:

♪ Humility

Humility sets us up for success with God and success with people.

James 4:7-8  “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw close to God,

and God will draw close to you.”  NLT

♪ Kindness

Rom 12:4-8

Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ's body. We are all parts of

his one body, and each of us has different work to do. And since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other,

and each of us needs all the others.

6 God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy,

speak out when you have faith that God is speaking through you. 7 If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well.

If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, do it! If you have money, share it

generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing

kindness to others, do it gladly.”  NLT

♪ Generosity

Matt 25:29-30  “To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance.

But from those who are unfaithful, even what little they have will be taken away.”  NLT

Luke 6:38  “For if you give, you will get! Your gift will return to you in full and overflowing measure, pressed down, shaken

together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use to give-large or small-will be used to measure

what is given back to you."

♪ Forgiveness

Luke 6:37-38  “If you forgive others, you will be forgiven.”  NLT

Gal 5:19-6:1  “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality,

impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, 20 idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy,

outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, 21 envy,

drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life

will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”

“But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have

nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 If we are living now by the Holy

Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or irritate one another,

or be jealous of one another.”  NLT

♪ Patience

2 Cor 6:3-5  “We try to live in such a way that no one will be hindered from finding the Lord by the way we act, and so no one

can find fault with our ministry. 4 In everything we do we try to show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure

troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind. 5 We have been beaten, been put in jail, faced angry mobs, worked to

exhaustion, endured sleepless nights, and gone without food.”  NLT

2 Cor 6:6-7  “We have proved ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, our sincere love, and the

power of the Holy Spirit.   7 We have faithfully preached the truth. God's power has been working in us.”  NLT

Jesus taught us that playing theses notes – having patience, kindness, etc, is having love for each other –

and in showing love for each other you show that you belong to God!

John 13:34-35  “Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.  35 Your love for one another will

prove to the world that you are my disciples."  NLT
