How? The Holy
Spirit!
Clutch Student Ministries Pastor Jordan Biel Rock of Grace Nov.16th , 2005
“For the Spirit
teaches you all things, and what He teaches is true — it is not a
lie.
So continue in what He has taught you, and continue to live in Christ.” NLT
Who is the Holy Spirit?
1. The Holy Spirit is God,
the 3rd Person of the Trinity
God is Father, Son (Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit. Eph 4:5-7 “For us there is only one Lord, one faith, one baptism, …” TLB God is referred to as God-the Father, Jesus-the Son of God, or The Holy Spirit of God.
The Holy Spirit contains the attributes, characteristics, behavior of who God is. The spirit inside displays the character outside. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you will display the character of Christ – loving, kind, forgiving, patient… Matt 28:18-19 “Jesus came and told his disciples, "I
have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth.
19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” NLT
2. The Holy Spirit is Truth
The Holy Spirit always leads you to the truth and the Holy Spirit always points to Christ. John 16:12-14 “When
the Holy Spirit, Who is truth, comes, He shall guide you into all truth, for He
will not be presenting His own ideas, but will be
passing on to you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He shall praise Me and bring Me great honor by showing you My glory.” TLB He is our Teacher. Luke 12:11-12 "And
when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and
authorities, don't worry about what to say in your defense,
12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you what needs to be said even as you are standing there." NLT

The Holy Spirit Teaches Us
The Holy Spirit teaches us about God’s grace. The Holy Spirit teaches us about Jesus’ death on the cross. 1 Cor 2:9-12 “That
is what is meant by the Scriptures which say that no mere man has ever seen,
heard, or even imagined what wonderful things
God has ready for those who love the Lord. 10 But we know about these
things because
God has sent his Spirit to tell us, and his Spirit searches
out and shows us all of God's deepest
secrets. 11 No one can really know what anyone else is thinking or what
he is really like except that person
himself. And no one can know God's thoughts except God's own Spirit. 12 And
God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world's spirit) to
tell us about the wonderful free gifts
of grace and blessing that God has given us.” TLB
1 Cor 2:16 “But, strange as it seems, we Christians actually do have within us a portion of the very thoughts and mind of Christ.” TLB John 14:25-26 “But when the Father sends
the Comforter instead of me — and by the Comforter I mean
the Holy Spirit — He will teach you much, as well as remind you of
everything I myself have told you” TLB

The Holy Spirit Convicts, Confirms, & Comforts Us
The
Holy Spirit Convicts us of sin; before we sin and when we sin.
1 Tim 4:12 “Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example
to all believers in what you teach, in the way you live, in your love,
your faith, and your purity.” NLT How can I be an example to all believers in purity? How? The Holy Spirit!
The Holy Spirit also gives us the strength to stand against the temptation to sin. James 4:4-8 & 10 “…Don't
you realize that friendship with this world makes you an enemy of God? I say it
again, that if your aim is to enjoy this world,
you can't be a friend of God. 5
What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the Holy
Spirit, whom God has placed within us, jealously
longs for us to be faithful? 6 He gives us more and more strength
to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, "God
sets himself
against the proud, but He shows favor to the humble." “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the Devil,
and he will flee from you. 8 Draw
close to God, and God will draw close to
you. … 10 When you bow down
before the Lord and admit your dependence on him, he will lift you up and
give you honor.” NLT
The Holy Spirit confirms things in us and directs us in life. Luke 2:26-28 “The Holy Spirit
had impelled him to go to the Temple that day; and so, when Mary and
Joseph arrived to present the baby Jesus to
the Lord in obedience to the law, 28 Simeon was there and took the child in his arms, praising God.” The Living Bible (TLB)
It’s the Holy Spirit that confirms in us that our salvation in Christ is true and real and that we really are a child of God. Rom 8:16-17 “For His Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that
we really are God's children. And since we are His children, we
will share His treasures-for all God gives to His Son Jesus is now ours too. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.” - The Living Bible

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us
The Holy Spirit gives us power. “When the Holy Spirit comes UPON you, you will receive power to be my witnesses…”
How? The Holy Spirit!
Acts 2:4 “And everyone present was filled with the
Holy Spirit and began speaking in languages they didn't know, for the Holy
Spirit
gave them this ability.”
